Shon Hayes
Commanding Officer
LTJG Shon Hayes was born and raised in Oakland California. I attended Bret Harte Jr. High school when I was in eighth grade I joined the AJROTC. In 1991 I continued ROTC at Skyline High School. In 1992 my family moved to Los Angeles California. I lived there for three years and attended Chatsworth High School class of 1993. I worked for Delta Airlines in customs. Then attended Duson Truck Driving School where I got my class A license. In 1996 my brother and I moved Oxnard California where I certified as a school bus driver. I attended Oxnard college which I got my degree in diesel mechanics. In 1997 was hired by San Diego Unified School District. Where I currently drive today.
In the year of 2011 I joined the Sea Cadets. My nephew ordered me to join the Sea Cadets. When I joined I became the supply officer for the unit. I have been in the position for seven years. I was Promoted to ENS in 2017. My first trainings include: 2016 and 2017 winter Recruit training DIVO at Camp Pendleton and 2018 summer recruit training DIVO at McClellan Air Force Base. In 2018 he became the unit's safety officer.
To the parents: You will see a difference in your sons/ daughters. As they strive forward to their future.
To the cadets: This is a great program for different opportunities. Those who join will have better opportunities for your future.

Laura Lopez
Executive Officer
ENS Lopez was born in Tijuana, Mexico and moved to the United States at the age of 9. Thereon she was raised in San Diego, CA. ENS Lopez joined the program when she was 10 years old as a Navy League cadet at T.S. Essex. During her Sea Cadet years, ENS Lopez was able to complete Navy League orientation, Sea Cadet Recruit training, Advanced STEM training, photojournalism, and FAA Ground school training. ENS Lopez took part in the unit’s CyberPatriot team resulting in a 2-time national finalist rank. In 2017, she graduated from Otay Ranch high school with honors and the California biliteracy seal. Later, ENS Lopez enrolled as an adult volunteer for Sea Cadets at her home unit as a Division Officer and coach leading their CyberPatriot team into placing at the national finals competition.

In May of 2021, ENS Lopez graduated from San Diego State University with distinction in both a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and a Bachelor of Art in Spanish. ENS Lopez is currently a Social Worker for a healthcare organization and the acting Executive Officer for the Division.
To the Parents: Contribute to your children’s motivation and give them all the tools they need to put their dreams into action. Let them learn from their mistakes and from their success.
To the Cadets: Trust yourself. Trust that you can do amazing things if you try. Some things may be difficult, challenging, but don’t quit. Remember that you have us. That we are here to support you, to listen, and to help. You represent yourself and you decide how you want to fill your time or how you want to fulfill it.

Janet Fuller
Training & Personnel Officer
LT Janet Fuller, was born in Lowell, Massachusetts. Daughter of a Marine, she has lived in Massachusetts, Virginia and West Virginia. In 1975 she drove to California. She attended Southwest High class of 1989. There she joined the NJROTC. She worked for a retirement home for seniors until 1990. In 1992 she worked for SeaWorld until 2003. She attended Pima Medical Institute for veterinary assistants and graduated 2006. She attended California College of San Diego and graduated with an associates degree in computer networking and information technology in 2010. During this she worked for VCA Main street animal hospital for five years and left in 2012.
She has two sons ages 23 and 22, both are former cadets. My oldest son aged out as PO3, and went into the army active duty with the rate of PV2. Her youngest aged out as PO1 and enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserve. Her youngest was recruited from the Miramar Air show in turn he recruited his older brother, and in a 2012 her youngest recruited her. When I joined I started the Gee Dunk Program.
Her Trainings Include: 2013, 2014, 2016, 2017 and 2018 Summer and 2017 Winter DIVO, 2013-2014 Winter Medical Training Escort Officer at Camp Pendleton, 2017 Camp Roberts boat building 2 class, Bill of Rights 2017-2018, and Recruit Training Operations liaison McCallion Air Force Base.
